Preventing Root Canal Therapy

Posted .

Root canal infections are primarily caused by deep tooth decay. Fortunately, although this means that patients typically cause their own pearly whites to decay, this also means that you can have a hand in averting the need for a root canal procedure. Here are a few things that you can do at home to thwart your need for root canal operations from our office.

Because the root cause of root canal treatment is deep tooth erosion, stopping tooth decay should be your main target. To minimize the effects of harmful bacterial acids eating away at your pearly whites, brush your chompers with fluoridated toothpaste at least twice a day. Clear out leftover food and food remnants from your oral cavity at least once daily by using floss, and ensure that you’re getting a checkup from our office at least once each six months. Another cause of root canal treatment is oral trauma, so if you play contact sports, wear a mouthguard to shield yourself.
