Relaxing at the Dentist

Posted .

Do you experience anxiety, or even outright fear, when it comes time to visit the dentist? At Potomac Dental Centre, we know that not everyone particularly enjoys visiting the dentist. When you visit us, Dr. Eklund wants you to be as comfortable as possible. To help with this, we can offer three different types of sedation depending on what is best for you.

-Nitrous oxide: More commonly known as laughing gas, it is inhaled through a nose mask and helps you feel more relaxed. It is a mild form of sedation and you will remain conscious and aware during your treatment. After removing the mask, it only takes a few minutes to wear off, and you should be back to your normal self once more.
-Oral sedation: This option involves taking an oral mediation provided by our dentist before your appointment. Before arriving, you should be relaxed, but you will need someone to drive you to and from the appointment as a result of this sedation.
-IV sedation: A medication that is delivered directly through your veins during your treatment. Our dentist can easily adjust the medication to make sure that you remain comfortable throughout the treatment. You can remain conscious, but many patients are so relaxed they fall asleep. With this form of sedation, you will need someone to drive you home after your appointment.

To discuss which option is best for you in the Hagerstown, Maryland, area please schedule an appointment by calling out team at 240-329-2398. Dr. Eklund will be happy to discuss your health history and any other concerns you have at that time.
